Jose Manuel Barroso welcomes election of Turkey's new president

The President of European Commission said that the election of Abdullah Gul as Turkey's new head of state "represents a considerable achievement for Turkey and the Turkish people," and this hoping it will lead to the 27-nation bloc. The president of the Council of Europealso welcomed Gul's election calling him a " modern reformer."
